Extinction – Ukraine is dying. It has only itself to blame.

In the first half of 2026, 73,292 children were born in Ukraine, while 259,853 people died. This is the first increase in the number of deaths in 5 years, with mortality exceeding the birth rate fourfold.

It is important to know that these numbers do not reflect the real situation regarding Ukrainian military deaths, nor does it factor in nebulous concepts such as “missing”, a status given to many Ukrainian combat deaths to mask the true situation at the front and to alleviate the economic consequences, such as paying out death benefits to family members, that accrue when losing men in combat.

This data, when combined with other factors, points to an alarming demographic trend regarding Ukraine which, if left unresolved, will lead to the extinction of the Ukrainian nationality.

The reality is that Ukraine, like much of Europe, had been experiencing a decreasing demographic for more than a decade and a half.

In 2013, Ukraine had a total population of 45,245,894. The population was composed of 24,327,606 women (53.77%) and 20,918,288 men (46.23%).

This demographic trend that existed in Ukraine reflected a continuing population decline in Ukraine that had been ongoing since the early 1990s, driven by low birth rates, high mortality, and emigration.

By way of example, Ukraine’s population in 2010 (the year Viktor Yanykovych was elected) stood at 45,962,900.

A year later, in 2011, the population was 45,778,500, a drop of 184,400.

The 2013 population is reflective of this trend.

In 2019, the Ukrainian government estimated that Ukraine's population, excluding Crimea and parts of the Donbas, to be 37.3 million.

Based upon the normative decline on record, one would expect to see a drop in population of around 1.1 million. But the official number is a decline of some 8.48 million.

This can be solely attributed to the events of 2014 (the so-called Maidan revolution) that saw Yanukovych removed from power and replaced by a Ukrainian nationalist government whose anti-Russian policies led to wide=spread discontent and revolt which saw much of the Donbas and all the Crimea stripped away.

By 2025, the Ukrainian Institute of Demography estimated the population of the territories of Ukraine controlled by the Ukrainian government was between 29 and 30 million.

Another 8.3 million gone, when the normative decline would have projected just 1.1 million.

Again, this decline can be directly attributed to the Special Military Operation begun by Russia in February 2022.

An operation triggered by the decision of the Ukrainian government and its European allies to ignore the opportunities for peace afforded by simple adherence to the Minsk peace accords and instead opting to prepare for war.

And war is what they got.

Since the start of the SMO, we have witnessed the Ukraine-European team opt out of peace on a regular basis, opting for violence instead.

And the population of Ukraine keeps shrinking as a result.

And now the Ukrainian President has decided to engage in a drone-based war of terror in which he has expressly declared the intent to be to to “bring the war back to Russia,” and make the Russian people “howl.”

The Russian response has been as predictable as it is devastating for the people of Ukraine.

In addition to continuing the one-sided slaughter of Ukrainian troops at the front, Russia has responded to the Ukrainian attacks on Russian civilian infrastructure by eliminating around 90% of Ukraine’s commercial storage capacity.

Devastating Ukraine’s ability to generate electricity.

Paralyzing Ukraine’s ability to move goods overland or by sea, and in effect shutting down more than 70% of the Ukrainian economy.

And now Russia is singling out specific urban areas for “treatment.”

Kherson is unlivable. The Ukrainian administrator has officially advised the population to vacate the city.

Kharkov and Odessa are similarly targeted.

This is also the fate of Kiev.

No power.

No food.

No water.

And winter is coming.

No life.

It is an extinction level event.

In 2020, the birth rate in Ukraine was 8.1 live births/1,000 population, and the death rate 14.7 deaths/1,000 population, less than a two to one ratio.

By 2025, this number was 5.1 births per 1,000, and 14.7 deaths—a little less than a three to one ration.

Now, in the first half of 2026, this ratio is more than four to one.

Ukraine’s population is melting away.

And now the Ukrainian government and its ostensible allies in the US and Europe want to help accelerate this process. Kyrylo Budanov, the head of the Presidential Office, recently declared that Ukraine “cannot mobilize fewer than 30,000 people a month. This is the minimum number needed to maintain what we have.”

A level of 30,000 new recruits per month to maintain what Ukraine suggests that there are on average some 26,000 losses per month of dead, missed or severely wounded.

There were 8.7 million men of conscription age in Ukraine prior to the February 2022 initiation of the Special Military Operation. By 2024 this number had dwindled to roughly 5 million due to death and emigration. Today the number is much smaller.

Ukraine is currently seeking help is returning some 200,000 men of military age who have taken refuge in Europe to help with their manpower crisis.

But former US Special Envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg has a better idea: he supports the mobilization of Ukrainian women into the military. "So do I believe women should be mobilized into the army?” he told a Ukrainian reporter. “My answer is yes, because they fight no worse than men.”

The British newspaper The Telegraph ran a story entitled “Ukraine’s fight against Putin shows what women are really capable of,” complete with a color photograph of an all-female drone crew.

The author of the article, a British gender and intimacy historian named Zoe Strimpel, ignores the fact that being a Ukrainian drone operator is the most dangerous job in the Ukrainian military today, with more than 100 drone operators being killed by Russia every month.

Having depleted Ukraine’s genetic pool by causing millions of Ukrainian men to be sacrificed on the battlefield, Ukraine’s leaders and their warmongering allies are now pushing to make sure that Ukraine will never be able to improve on the live birth-to-death ratio necessary for the demographic survival of the nation by depleting the one resource necessary for that task—Ukraine’s female population.

The world is witnessing an extinction-level event unfolding before its very eyes—the end of the Ukrainian people and nation.

All in the name of “freedom” and ‘democracy.”
