Is the West Losing Power?
Peter Hänseler argues that Russia has stayed politically stable, with high approval for President Putin, and that its economy has proved resilient despite sweeping Western sanctions. He describes a Russian war economy producing far more ammunition than NATO, while the civilian economy keeps running and goods remain widely available in cities such as Moscow.
On Ukraine, Peter expects the war to be decided on the battlefield rather than through a diplomatic deal with Washington or the current Ukrainian government, and suggests Russia could eventually control Russian-speaking regions including Kharkiv and Odessa. He is critical of Western leadership, particularly in Germany, over its rhetoric and economic policy.
Turning to the Middle East, Peter describes the Iran–Israel–US conflict as an expansionist war that underestimated Iran and has pushed Iran, China and Russia closer together. He discusses whether the House of Saud could fall, the West's weakening control over Middle Eastern oil and natural resources, and the ongoing movement of gold from West to East.
