Reinhard Hesse, born in 1945 in Westphalia, is a philosopher and political scientist. He holds a doctorate in philosophy from the University of Konstanz and a habilitation in political science, and held the chair of Philosophy and Ethics at the University of Education Freiburg after serving as chair of International Relations at the University of Giessen. A DAAD visiting professor for over three decades, he taught in Paris, Shanghai, New Delhi, Rio de Janeiro and Florianópolis, among others. He also served as international adviser to the ministries of education of Sri Lanka and Tajikistan, working on the mediation of ethnic conflicts through educational reform. A member of the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP), he regularly takes part in election observation missions for the OSCE. He is the author of numerous books and articles on philosophy, ethics and politics, and writes in German, English, Portuguese, French and Spanish.
